Women’s Soccer Season Ends In SLIAC Semifinals

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University women's soccer team continued postseason play in the 2025 SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament with a semifinals matchup against Spalding University. The Gorloks fought hard but unfortunately their season came to a close with a 0-4 defeat at the hands of the Golden Eagles. Webster closes out the season with a 14-5 overall record and 6-2 in conference. 

In the opening 15 minutes of the match, Webster and Spalding battled back-and-forth as the Gorloks defense was pressured with four Golden Eagles shots that included a save by first-year goalkeeper Kayla Jantzen. Over the next 15 minutes of play, both teams continued the battle that included another save by Janzten. 

In the 30th minute, the Gorloks recorded a counter attack when Lucy Elfrink had a great scoring opportunity but her shot missed wide left. Four minutes later, in the 34th minute, the Golden Eagles struck first on the scoreboard and took the 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the first half, Spalding recorded two shots on goal that included a save by Jantzen and Gorloks team save while Sienna Inouye recorded a shot but it did not get to the goal. 

In the opening 10 minutes of the second half, the Golden Eagles added six shots that included two saves by Jantzen. Moments later, in the 55th minute, Spalding scored their second goal of the match. In the 61st minute, the Golden Eagles added an attack that resulted in a goal.

In the 69th minute, the Gorloks constructed an attack that resulted in a shot on goal by Payton Montana but it was saved by SU's goalkeeper Sophie Neawedde. Just under three minutes later, in the 72nd minute, Spalding added their final goal of the match. For the remainder of the match, Jantzen added two saves while Mayrin Soto and Malaya Blakely added one shot each.

For the match, the Gorloks recorded five shots which came from Inouye, Soto, Blakely, Montana, and Elfrink as Montana on the lone shot on goal. In net, Jantzen recorded seven saves.
