Gorloks Defeat Illinois College For Sixth Victory Of The Season

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University women's tennis team continued the spring season with a non-conference match at Illinois College on Sunday. The Gorloks earned their sixth victory of the academic year with a 5-2 victory over the Lady Blues. With the victory, Webster improves to 6-4 overall on the season. 

Webster and IC opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks won one doubles match. In the number one doubles match, the team of Kylie Chitwood and Journee White worked fantastic together and cruised to a 6-2 victory.

In the second doubles match, the duo of Maddie Mena and Lucy Paro fought hard and captured four set victories but dropped the match by the score of 4-6. 

IC won the third doubles match by default for the 2-1 advantage.

In the singles play, the Gorloks won five singles matches that led to the victory. In the number singles match, White faced off against Alyssa Wise and eliminated Wise in straight sets by the scores of 6-3 and 6-1. 

In the second singles match, Paro lined up against Sophie Muir and opened the match with a 6-1 victory. In the set second, both student-athletes battled back-and-forth as Muir took the set 7-5 that forced a third set. In the third set, Paro got up early and defeated Muir 10-6 that won the match. 

In the third singles match, Chitwood was tasked against Michelle Maag as both student-athletes went point-for-point in the opening set to a tie at 6-6. In the tiebreaker set, Chitwood outdueled Maag for the 1-0 match lead. In the second set, Chitwood dominated Maag with a 6-1 set victory that won the match.

In the fourth singles match, Mena faced off against Lily Ingram and eliminated Ingram in straight sets by the scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Webster and IC split the fifth and singles matches with an unfinished and by default.

The Gorloks will revert back to conference play on Wednesday, April 9 hosting Greenville University starting at 4:00PM in Webster Groves, Missouri.
