Greifelt Tosses Complete Game 2-0 Shutout Against Spalding; Gorloks Advance to SLIAC Championship Game

O'FALLON, Mo. - The No. 14 Webster University baseball team continued their quest in the 2025 SLIAC Baseball Tournament with a decision against Spalding University at CarShield Field Friday afternoon. The SLIAC Pitcher of the Year Ryan Greifelt pitched a four-hit complete game shutout for the 2-0 victory. With the victory, Webster improves to 35-7 overall and advances to the SLIAC Championship game tomorrow afternoon.

The ace of the program in Greifelt took the mound for his 11th start of the season and opened the game with back-to-back looking strikeouts and a popup to Jac0b Charlson for a scoreless inning. In the bottom half, Karl Peters led off with a single but got out at second on a fielder's choice as James Theodore reached base. Following a stolen base by Theodore, Evan Evola hit a high chopper to second as the Spalding second baseman made an errant throw over the first baseman that allowed Theodore to score that took the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Greifelt sent down the Golden Eagles batters in order for his second shutout inning. In the third, Greifelt recorded another 1-2-3 inning that included an inning-ending strikeout. In the top of the fourth, the southpaw in Greifelt stranded two Spalding runners in scoring position with a flyout that ended the half inning. In the bottom half, Nick Schumacher increased the lead to 2-0 with a solo homer over the right center field wall.

In the fifth, Greifelt kept cruising through the Golden Eagles lineup as he recorded his fifth scoreless inning of the game with an inning-ending strikeout. In the sixth, Greifelt had another quick inning that included three flyouts to Theodore in center.

In the top of the seventh, Spalding's Jacob Spanyer led off the inning with a single and got out on a 6-4-3 double play. Greifelt recorded his seventh consecutive scoreless inning with a popup to Peters at short. In the eighth, Greifelt had another quick and shutout inning as he recorded back-to-back groundouts and a flyout to Ryan Hartz in right.

In the top of the ninth, Greifelt froze the SLIAC Player of the Year in Ethan Tuttle and sent him down on strikes for a huge first out of the inning. Greifelt followed up with a bouncer to Charlson at second and a flyout to R.J. LaRocco in left field that ended the game.

For the game, Greifelt pitched his second complete game of the season and recorded five strikeouts that secured his 12th victory of the season. Schumacher blasted a solo homer while Evola had the only RBI of the game. Peters led the team with two hits and Therodore and Peters swiped one bag each.

The Gorloks have advanced to the SLIAC Championship game scheduled for tomorrow May 10 and will face Mississippi University for Women at 1:00PM at CarShield Field.
