Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Kyle Jones

Women’s Tennis Falls To Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The Webster University women's tennis team continued non-conference play with a road match at Millikin University. The Gorloks battled the Big Blue tightly but dropped the match by the final score of 3-4. 

Webster and Millikin opened the dual match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks earned two doubles victories. In the number one match, the team of Abby Cristea and Maggie McBratney dominated their opponents to a 6-1 victory which secured their first doubles win of the season. In the number two doubles match,  Evie Schuetz and Doreen Eyongeta captured three set victories but fell by the score of 3-6. The Gorloks won the third doubles match by default which took the advantage. 

In singles play, Webster battled in five matches but unfortunately won two matches that took the defeat. In the number one singles match, McBratney lined up against Isabella Griffiths as both student-athletes fought hard to three sets. In the first set, both student-athletes exchange points to a tie at five apiece. Late in the set, Griffiths outlasted McBratney by the score of 5-7. In the second set, McBratney responded in a huge way and won the set by the score of 6-1 that forced a third set. In the third set, McBratney won three set victories but dropped the match by the score of 3-6.

Schuetz was tasked against Addi Ross as this match went all three sets. In the first set, Schuetz dominated her opponent to a 6-1 victory. In the second set, both student-athletes battled back-and-forth to a close set but Ross tied the set at one apiece with a 4-6 victory. In the third set, Schuetz got off to an early lead and won the match by the score of 6-2 for her first singles victory of the season. 

In the number three singles match, Cristea faced against Kristen Armstrong as Cristea fought hard but dropped the match in straight sets. Eyongeta played in the number four singles match, captured two set victories, but retired the match in the second set. In the number five singles match, Analiese Smith lined up against Tessa Koehler and played hard but dropped the match in straight sets. In the sixth singles match, the Gorloks won that match by default. 

The Gorloks will travel across town to Washington University on Friday, September 19 and compete in the first day of the 2025 ITA Regional Championships.
