Lemes Scores First Goal Of Season In 1-1 Draw to Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued non-conference play with a visit to Simpson College on Sunday. WU's Elmin Lemes scored his first goal of the season in the 36th minute as the Gorloks battled the Storm to a 1-1 draw. With the tie, Webster moves to 2-3-1 overall on the season. 

Webster and Simpson opened the match with back-and-forth action which led to a great scoring opportunity by Alberto Duque Gonzalez but his shot went out high. In the fourth minute, Shortly later, in the 12th minute, the Gorloks had another great chance at a goal when Scott Price ripped a shot on goal but it was saved by Nate Hersom. Less than four minutes later, Price had a great scoring opportunity when he blasted a shot to the left post but it was saved by Hersom. 

In the 17th minute, the Storm cracked the scoreless match with a goal by Mitchell Dickson. For the next 15 minutes of play, the Gorloks added three shots which came from Price, Duque Gonzalez and Niklas Storck as Hersom collected two saves. In the 36th minute, Webster responded with a counter attack that resulted in a goal by Lemes which tied the match at one apiece. That goal by Lemes marks his first of the season. For the remainder of the first half, both teams battled between the endlines with scoreless play which led to the halftime score of one apiece. 

The Gorloks made a goalkeeper chance in the second half and entered in Luke Dillon as he faced five shots in the first six minutes of play. In those five shots taken by Simpson, Dillon recorded two saves and kept the match tied.  In the 47th minute, Price had another great chance at goal but his shot was saved by Mason Chaplin. Shortly later, in the 61st minute, the Gorloks sent the ball into the attacking zone that resulted in a shot on goal by Charlie Noakes but it was saved by Chaplin.

Less than nine minutes later and in the 69th minute, Webster had a fantastic scoring opportunity when Immanuel Nwosu blasted a shot that hit the crossbar but no rebound shot was found. Moments later, in the 74th minute, Marcos Gonzales-Collado ripped a shot on goal but it was saved by Chaplin. 
For the remainder of the match, both teams had at least one scoring opportunity as Dillon recorded two saves while Chaplin recorded a save in the final minute that ended the match in a draw. 

For the match, the Gorloks recorded 15 shots which was led by Price with four as Duque Gonzalez had three. Goalkeepers Dillon and Leahy split time in net as Dillon led with three saves. 

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play with a crosstown visit to St. Louis Community College on Wednesday, September 24 starting at 2:00PM in St. Louis, Missouri.
