Martins Ferreira's Late Goal Lifts Gorloks Past Principia, 1-0

ELSAH, Ill. — The Webster University men's soccer team continued its perfect start to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play on Saturday afternoon, earning a 1-0 road victory over Principia College. The Gorloks improved to 6-2-3 overall and 6-0-0 in conference play with the win.

Webster controlled the pace early, generating several scoring opportunities throughout the first half. The Gorloks recorded 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net, sending the teams into halftime scoreless.

The Gorloks continued to apply pressure after the break, adding 13 more shots in the second half. After a series of chances, Webster finally broke through in the 82nd minute when Juan Ignacio Martins Ferreira scored his second goal of the season. Elmin Lemes provided the assist, setting up the game-winning strike with just eight minutes remaining.

Defensively, Webster held firm to preserve the shutout. Goalkeeper Jakub Samelko recorded two saves across 90 minutes, helping the Gorloks secure their sixth conference victory of the season.

Webster finished the contest with a commanding 27-12 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.

Webster will return home on Saturday, Oct. 24, to host Greenville University at 3:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The matchup will mark the Gorloks' final home game of the regular season as they look to maintain their lead atop the SLIAC standings.
