BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Webster University volleyball team split a pair of SLIAC matches Saturday at the Lyon College Tri-Match, falling to Spalding University, 3-1, before bouncing back with a 3-0 sweep of host Lyon College.
The Gorloks opened the day against Spalding, taking the first set, 25-20, before the Golden Eagles responded by winning the next three sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20. Mea Bystrom led Webster with 14 kills in the match, while Emma Price recorded 18 assists and Addison Urbanski added 16 assists. Lilly Bott finished with 12 digs, while Lexi Filkins recorded 11 digs.
Webster responded in its second match of the day by sweeping Lyon, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17. Reagan Howe recorded 11 kills in the match, while Bystrom added 10 kills and Carley Hersberger finished with six kills. Price totaled 17 assists, with Urbanski adding 15 assists. Filkins led the Gorloks defensively with 14 digs, while Bott and Urbanski each recorded nine digs.
As a team, Webster hit .216 against Lyon and recorded eight total block assists. Eva Tarlos finished with three block assists, while Howe added two and Lewis had one.
For the two-match weekend, Bystrom led the Gorloks with 24 total kills, while Howe finished with 18 kills. Price totaled 35 assists, and Filkins recorded 25 digs across the two matches.
With Saturday's split, Webster moves to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in SLIAC play.
The Gorloks will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 6, traveling to Greenville University for a 7 p.m. SLIAC matchup in Greenville, Ill.
