Gorloks Softball Fall To UW-Eau Claire In Florida

COCOA BEACH, Flor. - The Webster University softball team continued spring break play with a decision against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Gorloks fell by the score of 1-18. Webster moves to 6-11 overall.

First-year pitcher Brystol Klossner earned her fourth appearance of the season in the circle but UW-Eau Claire opened the game with a walk, five hits, and a hit-by-pitch that produced five runs. Moments later, Webster made a pitching change to Ainsley Hinz but the Blugolds recorded four additional hits that turned into a 10-run inning. Hinz got out the inning with a fielder's choice play made by Paige Vogelgesang at short. 

In the bottom of the first, Isabelle Loiben recorded a one-out single through the right side but she was left stranded. 

In the top of the second, Eau Claire added five runs on five hits that included an error by Webster. With two outs, Webster made a pitching change to Madi Stichling as she got out of the inning. 

In the bottom of the second, Abigail Chandler led off and reached base on a throwing error. With one out, Marah Schotz laced a single down the left field line but both runners were left stranded. 

In the top of the third, Stichling recorded a scoreless inning that included two groundouts and a popout. In the bottom half, Loiben recorded a one-out double to center and later scored on an RBI double by Hinz that put Webster on the scoreboard. 

In the top of the fourth, the Blugolds added three hits that produced two runs. In the top of the fifth, Eau Claire added a run with an RBI double. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Gorloks went down in order that generated the final score. 

For the game, Loiben led with two hits while Hinz and Schotz recorded a hit each as Hinz drove in the only RBI of the game. In the circle, Klossner pitched 22 pitches and allowed seven runs. Hinz delivered 1.2 innings of relief and recorded three groundouts and two flyouts. Stichling closed out the game with 3.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts.
