Gorloks Secure SLIAC Regular Season Title; Wrubluski’s Two-Run Walk-Off Homer Sweeps Lyon On Senior Day

SAUGET, Ill. - The Webster University baseball team closed out the regular season by hosting Lyon College on Saturday for Senior Day. The Gorloks secured the 2026 SLIAC Regular Season Title with a 5-2 victory and won 10-9 on a walk-off two-run homer by Nick Wrubluski in the regular season finale. With the victories, Webster improves to 27-13 overall and 21-3 in SLIAC play.

Prior to the first game, Head Coach Bill Kurich and his staff honored 14 seniors part of the Class of 2026 which included Charlie Pellicer, Colton Eggerding, Jonah Taylor, Nick Wrubluski, Dalton Groves, AJ Simmons, Shane LeJeune-DeAcutis, Carter Hunt, Quinton Johnston, Elijah Rompala-Matthews, Collin Johnson, Noah Jensen, Andrew Xenakis, and Zach Mevert for their hardwork and decidation to the Gorloks program. 

Game 1: Webster 5, Lyon 2
Left-handed starting pitcher Ryan Greifelt earned the start on the mound and opened the game with a 1-2-3 inning with two flyouts and a strikeout. In the second, both teams did not score as Greifelt recorded two groundouts and a strikeout. 

In the top of the third, Greifelt sent down the Scots in order with a flyout and consecutive strikeouts. In the bottom half, James Theodore and Adam Moser recorded back-to-back singles when Groves followed up with a three-run homerun over the right center field wall that took the 3-0 lead. 

In the fourth and fifth innings, neither team scored a run as Greifelt recorded a strikeout in each inning. In the top of the sixth, Lyon recorded three consecutive singles then scored a run on a 6-4-3 doubleplay. 

In the top of the seventh, Lyon recorded a single, a walk, and sacrifice bunt that put runners in scoring position. With one out, the Scots added an RBI groundout to Reid Hieptas at third. Greifelt got out of the inning with a flyout to right. 

In the top of the eighth, Greifelt sent down the Scots in order with two strikeouts and a groundout. In the bottom half, Wrubluski led off with a single when Taylor entered the game as the pinch runner. Moments later, Taylor advanced to second on a wild pitch then stole third. With one out, Hartz increased the Gorlok lead to 4-2 with a sacrifice fly to deep center. First baseman Ethan Wielt followed up with a single up the middle. With two outs, Talan Hutchings recorded an RBI single to right as Wielt came all the way around from first and scored which stretched the lead to 5-2.

In the top of the ninth, Greifelt shut the door and sent down the Scots in order with two flyouts and a strikeouts. 

For the game, Greifelt pitched a complete game, recorded nine strikeouts, and allowed just one walk. Groves blasted a three-run homer while Hutchings had two hits and an RBI as Hartz contributed a sacrifice fly. 

Game 2: Webster 10, Lyon 9
Senior right-hander Rompala-Matthews got the start on the mound for game two as he got in a jam with a single, a wild pitch, and a hit-by-pitch. With one out, Lyon struck first on the scoreboard with an RBI groundout. With two outs, the Scots took the 2-0 lead with an RBI single to right. Rompala-Matthews got out of the inning with a fielder's choice groundout at second. 

In the bottom half, Simmons recorded a single up with the middle then stole second. With Simmons in scoring position, Groves ripped an RBI single up the middle for the first Gorlok run of the game. 

In the second inning, both teams did not score a run that included two strikeouts and a groundout by Rompala-Matthews. 

In the top of the third, Johnson took over on the mound and recorded a scoreless inning with a strikeout, a popout, and a groundout. In the bottom half, Simmons recorded an infield single to third then stole second and third. Following a walk by Groves, Xenakis tied the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Simmons. 

In the fourth, Lyon recorded a leadoff double then that runner scored on a throwing error to first by Webster that gave the Scots the 3-2 lead. Following a one-out walk, Webster made a pitching change to LeJeune-DeAcutis. He got out of the jam with a fielder's choice and a strikeout that kept that one-run deficit. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Jensen led off with a hit-by-pitch when Taylor followed up with a two-run homer over the left field wall that put the Gorloks on top at 4-3. Pellicer continued the inning and reached on a Lyon error then Moser drew a walk. Shortly later, Pellicer and Moser executed the double steal attempt and moved to third and second. With runners in scoring position, Pellicer scored on a wild pitch that increased the lead to 5-3. 

In the fifth, the Scots recorded a leadoff walk then LeJeune-DeAcutis struckout the next batter he faced which ended his outing. Webster then called upon Johnston as the Scots tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run homer. Johnston got out of the inning with a flyout and a strikeout. 

In the sixth, Lyon recorded a double and a hit-by-pitch then took the 6-5 lead on an RBI single to left that ended Johnston's outing. Webster then called upon left-hander Mevert then Lyon stretched their lead to 7-5 with a single up the middle. Following a strikeout by Mevert, the Scots increased the deficit to 9-5 with a two-run single to right. Mevert got out of the inning with a strikeout. 

In the top of the seventh, Webster made their final pitching change of the game and entered in first-year Colt Armbrust. Armbrust recorded a scoreless inning with a lineout, a popout, and a flyout.

In the eighth, Armbrust sent down the Scots in order with back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout. In the bottom half, Hietpas led off with a hit-by-pitch, stole second, and advanced to third by Jensen. With two outs, Pellicer ripped an RBI single to left that scored Jensen that made the score 9-6. With two runners on base, Moser cleared the bases with a two-run triple to left center that cut the deficit to one at 9-8. 

In the top of the ninth, Armbrust recorded a popout and two strikeouts for a scoreless inning. In the bottom half, Simmons led off with a walk then Wrubluski walked-off the game with a two-run homer over the right field wall that secured the win and the sweep over Lyon. 

For the game, Taylor had a two-run homer while Simmons went 2-for-3 with three runs and three stolen bases. Wrubluski and Moser had two RBI's each as Pellicer scored twice. On the mound, five seniors recorded at least two outs while Armbrust closed out the final three innings was earned the win.
