Gorloks Season Ends In SLIAC Quarterfinal To Blackburn

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - The Webster University softball team hosted Blackburn College for the 2026 SLIAC Softball Quarterfinal game. The Gorloks fought hard but fell to the Beavers by the score of 0-5. Webster ends their season with a 19-21 overall record.

First-year pitcher Kailey Rushman earned the start in the circle and worked out of a walk and a single with a doubleplay by Paige Vogelgesang at short and a flyout. In the bottom of the first, Vanessa Saenz recorded a two-out walk when Ainsley Hinz followed up with a single to right. The Gorloks loaded the bases on a walk drawn by Ava Reinecke but did not score. 

In the second, Rushman allowed back-to-back singles but recorded her second scoreless inning with two flyouts and a fielder's choice.

In the top of the third, Blackburn recorded consecutive singles, a sacrifice bunt, then took the 0-2 lead on a two-run single up the middle. Rushman got out of the inning with a flyout and a groundout. 

In the bottom of the third, Isabelle Loiben led off with a single through the right side then later advanced to second on an error by Blackburn's right fielder. With two outs, Hinz drew a walk but both runners were left stranded. 

In the top of the fourth, Rushman recorded her third scoreless inning with a strikeout and two groundouts. In the bottom half, Kacey Ekstrom reached first and advanced to second on a throwing error by Blackburn's shortstop. However, the Gorloks were sent down on strikeouts that kept the two-run deficit. 

In the top of the fifth, Rushman allowed a leadoff single which ended her outing. Webster entered in Adriana Rodriguez as she got a flyout for the first out of the inning. Following a single and advancement to second, Blackburn added a run with a single up the middle that made the score 0-3. Rodriguez got out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts. 

In the top of the sixth, Rodriguez sent down the Beavers in order with a 1-4-3 play, a groundout, and a flyout. In the bottom half, Hinz led off with a single through the left side but got out at second on a fielder's choice. With one out, Natalie Puentes recorded a pinch-hit walk but both runners were left stranded. 

In the top of the seventh, Blackburn got their first two batters on by an error and a single that put runners in scoring position. Moments later, Blackburn made the score 0-4 with a groundout to second. With one out, the Beavers scored their final run of the game with a sacrifice flyout to center. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Madi Stichling recorded a leadoff pinch-hit walk but the Gorloks did not move that runner further which ended the game.  

For the game, Rushman pitched four innings, recorded six groundouts, and one strikeout. Rodriguez delivered three innings of relief, recorded four groundouts and two strikeouts. Hinz went 2-for-2 while Loiben recorded a hit.
