Gorloks Earn SLIAC Tournament Title With 10-5 Victory Over Westminster; Webster Secures Ticket To NCAA Div. III Baseball Regionals.

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Webster University baseball team closed out the 2026 SLIAC Baseball Tournament with two games against Westminster College. The Gorloks secured the 2026 SLIAC Baseball Tournament title with a 10-5 victory in game two over the Blue Jays. With the victory, Webster earned their spot in the NCAA Div. III Baseball Regionals.

Game 1: Webster 3, Westminster 14
Junior dual-sport student-athlete Kendall Horton earned the start on the mound and opened the game with a scoreless inning with a flyout and two strikeouts. In the bottom of the first, James Theodore led off with a single to center then later got to third by Adam Moser and Dalton Groves. With two outs, Nick Wrubluski launched a two-run homerun that took the early 2-0 lead. 

In the top of the second, Westminster recorded a leadoff solo homerun that made the score 2-1. Horton then sent down the Blue Jays with three consecutive strikeouts. 

In the top of the third, Horton recorded two strikeouts and a flyout for his second shutout inning of the game. In the bottom half, Theodore led off with a walk then immediately stole second. Following a hit-by-pitch taken by Groves and with two outs, Reid Hieptas ripped an RBI single to center that scored Theodore and increased the lead to 3-1. 

In the top of the fourth, Horton sent down the Blue Jays in order with a popout, a groundout, and a flyout. In the bottom half, Ethan Wielt led off with a single to left then later advanced to second on a wild pitch, but he was left stranded. 

In the top of the fifth, Westminster recorded a single, a stolen base, and another single that put runners on the corners. With no outs, the Blue Jays added a run with an RBI single to right that made the score 3-2. Following a single that loaded bases, Westminster tied the game at 3-3 on an error by Webster. 

Webster then made a pitching change and called upon left-hander Collin Johnson when Westminster took the 4-3 lead with a sacrifice flyout to center. With two outs, the Blue Jays recorded a three-run homerun that generated the 7-3 deficit. Johnson got out of the inning with a flyout. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Moser led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single to right by Groves. However, both runners were left stranded. 

In the top of the sixth, Westminster recorded a leadoff single and that runner advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Following that play, Webster made a pitching change to Elijah Rompala-Matthews and got into a bases loaded jam with a single and a walk. With the bases loaded, the Blue Jays added a run with an RBI single to center that made the deficit 3-8. 

In the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays recorded two singles that put runners on the corners. With one out, Westminster added a run with an RBI single to left center. Moments later, the Blue Jays made the score 3-10 with a sacrifice flyout. With a runner on second, Westminster recorded an RBI single to left that made the score 3-11. The Blue Jays capped off the four-run inning with an infield RBI single to short that made the score 3-12. Rompala-Matthews got out of the inning with a groundout. 

In the bottom of the seventh, AJ Simmons, Noah Jensen, and Andrew Xenakis got a pinch-hit opportunity but did not record a hit. 

In the top of the eighth, Westminster got a runner on base followed by an error by Webster as that runner made it to third base. With two out, the Blue Jays added a run with an RBI infield single that made the score 3-13. 

In the top of the ninth, Webster made a pitching change as Jack Knapp made his season debut. Following a leadoff double by Westminster, Knapp got a groundout to short. With one out and a runner on third, the Blue Jays scored their final run of the game with a sacrifice flyout that made the score 3-14. In the bottom of the ninth, the Gorloks were sent down in order that generated the final. 

For the game, Wrubluski went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer while Hieptas went 1-for-3 with an RBI. On the mound, Horton pitched 4.1 innings and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts. Johnson delivered 1.1 innings and got a strikeout. Rompala-Matthews pitched 2.1 innings and recorded one strikeout. Knapp pitched one inning and got two groundouts and a flyout. 


Game 2: Webster 10, Westminster 5
First-year pitcher Colt Armbrust got the start on the mound in game two as he opened the game with a strikeout. Moments later, the Blue Jays added consecutive singles as both runners advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch by Armbrust. With one out, Westminster took the early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice flyout to right. With two outs, the Blue Jays added an RBI single to center that generated the 2-0 deficit. Armbrust got out of the inning with a flyout. 

In the second, the Blue Jays recorded a walk and a single that put runners on the corners. With one out, Westminster increased their lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice flyout. Groves got the Gorloks out of the inning by throwing out a Blue Jay trying to steal third. 

In the top of the third, Armbrust recorded a scoreless inning that included a 6-4-3 doubleplay and a popout to first. In the bottom half, Theodore and Moser reached base on back-to-back errors by Westminster. With runners on the corners, Groves ripped an RBI double to right that scored Theodore and made the score 1-3. With runners in scoring position, Wrubluski cut the deficit to one a 2-3 with a sacrifice flyout that scored Moser. 

In the middle innings, both teams were held scoreless as Armbrust recorded four flyouts and two groundouts. 

In the top of the sixth, Webster made a pitching change and called upon reliever Wes Carter as he recorded a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a popout. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Wielt led off and tied the game at 3-3 with a solo homerun over the left field wall. With two outs, Theodore put the Gorloks on top at 4-3 with a solo homerun over the left field wall. The inning continued with a single to left by Moser, a walk drawn by Groves, and a single by Wrubluski. With the bases loaded, Hieptas drew a walk that increased the lead to 5-3. Moments later, Groves scored on a wild pitch that took the 6-3 lead. With runners in scoring position, Ryan Hartz ripped a two-run ground-rule double that increased the lead to 8-3. 

In the top of the seventh, Westminster recorded back-to-back singles that put runners on the corners. With one out, the Blue Jays added a run with a sacrifice flyout that made the score 4-8.

In the top of the eighth, Carter recorded a scoreless inning with a strikeout and a 6-4-3 doubleplay. In the bottom frame, Groves led off with a single to left when Jonah Taylor entered the game as a pinch runner. Wrubluski followed up with a single to right center that moved Taylor to third. With runners on the corners, Hieptas increased the lead to 9-4 with a sacrifice flyout. Hartz continued the inning with a single to left when Matthew Lanier was hit by the pitch that loaded the bases. With the bases loaded, Talan Hutchings drove in Wrubluski that stretched the lead to 10-4. 

In the top of the ninth, Westminster recorded two singles and Carter got a fielder's choice groundout that put runners on the corner. With runners on the corners, the Blue Jays added their final run of the game with an RBI single to center that made the score 10-5. Lanier recorded the final out of the game with an unassisted groundout at first. 

For the game, Hartz went 2-for-5 with two RBI's while Hietpas had two RBI's. Wrubluski: 3-for-4 with two runs while Groves was 2-for-3 with RBI. On the mound, Armbrust pitched five innings and recorded two strikeouts. Carter closed out the final four innings with three strikeouts and was credited with the win.
