Gorloks Close Windy City Invite With Five-Set Win

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team closed the Windy City Invite with a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon, finishing the weekend with a 1-2 record.

The Gorloks opened the tournament Friday against the University of Chicago, falling 3-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 27-25. Webster was led by Catherine Rennier with six points, while Leah McGrath recorded four kills and Lexi Filkins finished with 11 digs.

Webster returned to action Saturday morning against John Carroll University and dropped a 3-1 decision. After falling 25-19 in the opening set, the Gorloks answered with a 25-14 win in the second before John Carroll took the final two sets, 25-14 and 25-12. McGrath led Webster with eight kills, while Eva Tarlos and Mea Bystrom added seven kills each. Rennier recorded six kills on a .385 hitting percentage and added four blocks. Emma Price finished with 18 assists and Addison Urbanski added 11.

Webster closed the weekend with a five-set comeback against Kalamazoo. The Gorloks dropped the first set 25-22 before winning the second 25-20. Kalamazoo took the third set 25-17, but Webster answered with a 25-18 win in the fourth and finished the match with a 15-11 victory in the fifth.

Bystrom and Reagan Howe led Webster with 10 kills apiece, while Emma Price finished with 22 assists and six kills. Filkins recorded 16 digs and Maddie Bock added 12 digs, while Bystrom hit .360 and Howe hit .320.

The Gorloks move to 4-5 on the season following the weekend. The Gorloks return home Tuesday, Sept. 15, hosting Illinois College at 6 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
