Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Hendrix, 1-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 non-conference victory over Hendrix College Friday morning at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park.

After a scoreless first half, Webster broke through in the 60th minute when Malaya Blakely found the back of the net at 59:46 off an assist from Riley Cappozzo. The goal marked Blakely's fifth of the season.

The Gorloks' defense and goalkeeper Leia Adkins kept Hendrix off the scoreboard, as Adkins recorded six saves to earn the shutout.

Webster finished with 10 shots, including seven on goal, while Hendrix recorded 13 shots and six shots on goal. The Gorloks also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Blakely led Webster with three shots, all of which were on goal, while Mia Smith added four shots and three shots on goal. Cappozzo recorded one shot on goal in addition to her assist.

With the win, Webster improves to 3-2-0 on the season.

The Gorloks will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois to take on Illinois College.
