ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Webster University volleyball team wrapped up the WashU Bear Invite with three matches against strong competition, dropping all three contests over the weekend at the WashU Field House.
The Gorloks opened the weekend Friday afternoon against Wheaton College, falling 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-7 and 25-6. Eva Tarlos led Webster with five kills, while Mea Bystrom added four kills and two block assists. Emma Price recorded a team-high eight assists, and Cameron Garcia led the Gorloks with five digs.
Webster returned to the court Friday evening against St. Olaf College and again fell in three sets, 25-12, 25-4 and 25-8. Tarlos and Carley Hersberger each recorded four kills, while Reagan Howe added three kills. Price finished with eight assists, Shalamar Szarka added seven assists and Lexi Filkins led the defensive effort with nine digs.
The Gorloks closed the tournament Saturday morning against UC Santa Cruz, putting together a strong effort against the Banana Slugs before falling 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.
Leah McGrath led Webster with seven kills, while Bystrom added six kills on a .250 hitting percentage. Tarlos contributed four kills and Reagan Howe had three. Price finished with eight assists and seven digs, while Addison Urbanski recorded nine assists and two digs. Filkins posted a weekend-best 12 digs in the match.
Across the three matches, Price finished with 24 assists, while Tarlos and McGrath each recorded 13 kills. Filkins led the Gorloks with 25 digs over the weekend.
Webster finished the Bear Invite with an 0-3 record and moved to 2-3 overall on the season. The Gorloks will return home Wednesday, Sept. 9, hosting Knox College at 7 p.m. at Grant Gymnasium.
