Women's Tennis - Season Outlook - 2012
The women’s tennis program is consistently one of the best in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The women’s tennis team had record setting seasons in 2009 and 2010, finishing 12-3 and 11-5, respectively. The 2011 squad finished the season with a 9-4 record with wins over Division II Maryville University, NAIA schools Lindenwood Belleville, and Stephens College. Some other recent achievements by the women’s team include:
1. Most wins in conference play the last 6 seasons
2. Back to Back undefeated conference seasons in 2009 and 2010
3. Conference Championship in 2010
4. NCAA Tournament in 2010
5. 4 time academic achievement awards for athletic department with team gpa’s of (3.81, 3.60, 3.49, 3.58)
6. 5 all conference players in 2011 and 6 in 2010
7. In 2011 5 players were ITA/Scholar athlete with a gpa above a 3.5
8. A 50-21 overall record in the last 6 seasons
9. Have broken all 6 six school records, which include most wins in school history(12), most consecutive wins(12), most singles and doubles wins in
a year and career
The 2011-12 women’s tennis team looks to be as better than ever. The Gorlok’s will return their top 4 players and will be adding 6 high school all-conference recruits to this year squad. The list of newcomer’s will include 3 players from California and players from Oklahoma, Arizona, Texas, and the Chicago area. The 2011 schedule will feature 2 trips to Chicago to take on strong regional teams such as Aurora University, Millikin University, Illinois Wesleyan, Elmhurst University, and Concordia-Chicago. And local teams Washington University, Missouri Baptist, and Maryville University.
“I’m going into my 7th season as Head Coach here at Webster University and this is the most excited I have been. This should be my strongest team and biggest nucleus of talent from across the country. We look forward to playing a tough schedule that will challenge us and hopefully help us capture the conference title again and make a return trip to the National Tournament.”
All Matches are held at Webster Groves Recreational Center. This state of the art facility features 8 courts and plays host too many ITA regional tournaments and local tournaments. The courts are operated by Webster University’s coaching staff and players.
