The Webster men’s soccer team split a pair of games this past weekend at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. The Gorloks dropped a very physical 2-1 contest to Fontbonne on Saturday then rebounded for a 4-1 victory on Sunday over Concordia-Chicago.
Against Fontbonne on Saturday, the Gorloks (6-5-1, 3-2 SLIAC) got on the board in the 11th minute when Sam Hackett blasted a shot from 30 yards away into the far post. The Griffons (6-2-4, 5-0 SLIAC) answered with a pair of goals in the 31st and 43rd minutes to take a 2-1 lead into intermission. WU had a great chance to tie the game in the 75th minute but Kevin Fann’s shot hit off the cross bar and was cleared off the line. The contest saw the teams combine for 36 fouls and three yellow cards.
On Sunday the Gorloks bounced back in a big way against Concordia-Chicago (2-9-1). WU scored twice in a four minute span to take a 2-0 lead into the break. CUC cut that lead in half on a penalty kick in the 49th minute but Webster scored two goals 1:52 apart to secure the victory.
