Softball gets DH sweep over Eureka 2-1 and 4-1

(St. Louis, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks picked up a key conference doubleheader sweep over Eureka 2-1 and 4-1 on Tuesday at afternoon at Blackburn Park. With the wins Webster has now won five in a row and four straight in conference play.

In the first game the Gorloks (14-10, 5-1 SLIAC) got all the runs they needed in the first inning on a two run homer to center field off the bat of Kelsey Washam. For Washam it was her team leading seventh home run of the season. Megan Sperry made those two runs stick allowing a run on six hits with a season high 13 strikeouts with no walks improving to 7-4 on the year. In her last three outings has allowed only two runs on 10 hits with 21 strikeouts while yielding only two walks in 18 innings of work.

In the nightcap Webster took advantage of six Red Devil (10-10, 3-3 SLIAC) including two in the third inning that led to three runs highlighted by a two run double by Washam to left center. After Eureka got one of those runs back in the fourth WU took advantage again of a couple EC errors to push the lead back to three runs. Gina Trapani had a no hitter through the first 3.1 innings before a single to left field broke up the no hit bid. She tossed the first six innings allowing just  the one run on four hits with eight strikeouts to improve to 7-2. Lexie Moore pitched a perfect seventh earning her second save in as many chances.

The Gorloks return to play with a conference doubleheader against Westminster on Thursday afternoon at Blackburn Park beginning at 4 p.m.
