(Jacksonville, Ill.) - The Webster Gorloks finished off a three game sweep of the MacMurray Highlanders with an
11-4 win on Monday afternoon in Jacksonville. With the win Webster's magic number is down to four to clinch the regular season conference title.
The Gorloks (
20-11, 15-2 SLIAC) gave up a run in the first and two more in the fourth and trailed 3-0 heading into the fifth. In the fifth Webster scored three runs on six straight singles highlighted by
Andrew Fuiten's two run single which tied the game at 3-3 and then
Greg Steen gave WU the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. They had a chance for more but a strikeout ended the inning. The Highlanders (5-20, 2-15) tied it back up in the home half of the fifth but the Gorloks regained the lead with a run in the sixth then added four in the seventh and one in the eighth and ninth to pull away with the win.
Webster pounded out 13 hits in the victory led by
Alex Raetzloff and
Craig Schaefer with three hits apiece. Fuiten had three RBIs extending his team lead to 43 on the year.
Eric Broughton improved to 3-1 allowing four runs, three earned on six hits with a five strikeouts against two free passes in 7.1 innings of work.
WU returns to action with a single nine inning game on Wednesday evening traveling to Fulton, Mo. for a match up with Westminster at 7 p.m.
