(Fulton, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks sent 11 men to the plate in the fourth inning scoring seven times en route to a
12-2 win over the Greenville Panthers in the first round of the SLIAC Tournament on Friday evening at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. With the win Webster plays Maryville in a winners bracket game on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. at Saucier Field in Fulton.
The Gorloks (
28-13) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning when starter
Brett Mueller hit the lead-off batter who then scored on a double by Stefan Neece that landed just inside the left field foul line. Mueller avoided further damage in the inning though getting the next two hitters to ground out to second base. WU had its opportunities in the opening frames stranding four base runners including three in scoring position before finally breaking through in the fourth.

Craig Schaefer moved him to third
Wes Hilliard singled to center field tying the game. After a walk loaded the bases
Nathan Shelton put the Gorloks on top for good with a single through the left side then
Alex Raetzloff delivered the big blow by unloading on the first pitch he saw for a grand slam to right field to make it 6-1. They got its final run of the frame when
Andrew Fuiten scored on a throwing error by the catcher into left field.
The Gorloks added four more runs in its half of the sixth with Schaefer hitting a three run round tripper to left field, his fourth of the season, to make it 11-1. The Panthers (20-18) got their final run in the seventh on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two out but WU ended the game in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded single up the middle from
Greg Steen to enforce the spread rule.
Raetzloff, Steen and Schaefer each had three hits in the win as the offense compiled 14 in the win. Eight players had at least one hit in the win.
Mueller improved to 8-0 on the year holding the Greenville offense to two runs on four hits with six strikeouts against three walks.
