Double Overtime Loss Stings Gorloks

On Wednesday night, Webster men’s soccer faced off against Fontbonne, one night after beating MacMurray 10-0 to earn their first win of the season.  In the second game of the tough back-to-back nights, the Gorloks dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 in double overtime.

With 5:39 left in the second overtime, Fontbonne freshman Greg Leber stepped up and scored the game-winning goal to give the Griffins the victory.

Webster senior goalkeeper Nick Keim had his first start of the season in this fierce rivalry game, coming up with big saves on the Gorloks’ side.  During the second half, Fontbonne lost freshman Charlie Chafin
when he was ejected from the game after receiving a yellow card and arguing with the official.

Both teams played tenacious defense throughout the game.  After the game, junior Andy Rudroff said, “We didn’t play the full 90 minutes and we just dropped off at the end.”  Fontbonne demonstrated excellent
conditioning by playing as the aggressor for most of the game.

The Gorloks return to the field on September 14 against Rhodes College at 1 p.m. at A-B Soccer Park.
