The Webster University men's soccer team won its fifth straight game, 4-2, over Blackburn College on October 13 at the Soccer Park. The victory was a team effort as Coach Marty Todt utilized all 22 of his players.
Senior Mike Riti (Webster Groves HS, STL) put Webster up 1-0 at the 20-minute mark with his fourth goal of the season, off a cross by junior Kyle Leifield (Marquette HS, STL). Blackburn tied the score one minute later, but a goal by senior Kyle Lewman (Belleville East, IL) at 26:00 put Webster back on top.
After Blackburn tied the game, 2-2, on a penalty kick four minutes later, Todt decided changes were in order. Making wholesale substitutions, eight starters were subbed before the half, never to return to the contest.
In the second half, junior Bryce Johnson (Basha HS, AZ) put the Gorloks ahead for good with his first goal of the season at the 52:55 mark. Andy Rudroff (SR, DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL) closed the scoring with his fourth goal at 82 minutes. GK Pete Mothe (JR, Asociacion Lincoln, Argentina), playing the second half, picked up his first win of the season.
The Gorloks sit atop the SLIAC at 4-0. They are now 5-5-1 for the season and 5-0-1 in their last six games. The men face conference newcomer, Spalding University, in Louisville, KY, on October 21. Spalding, ranked 10th in the NCAA III Central Region, is 6-2 in the SLIAC and 9-2 overall.
