The Webster University men's soccer team cut it as close as possible in regulation, then added its sixth straight win in double-overtime, 3-2, over Spalding University on October 21 in Louisville, KY.
Junior Eric Fuchs (Vianney HS, STL), normally counted on for his defensive prowess, scored the game-tying goal at the 89 minute and 30 second mark of regulation time, off a pass from senior Kyle Lewman (Belleville East HS, IL).
Kyle Gamache (SR, Webster Groves HS, STL) stepped up and buried a game-winning PK four minutes into the second overtime period after Dominic DeVasto (SO, Vianney HS, STL) was pulled down in the box,
Fuchs had earlier assisted on a goal by Kyle Leifield (JR, Marquette HS, STL) to tie the game, 1-1, at 35:00 in the first half. Spalding broke the tie at the 85:00 mark before Fuchs sent the game into OT.
The win keeps Webster in first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 5-0. The Gorloks hosts second-place Greenville College (IL) on October 24 at the Soccer Park.
