Two big innings deflate Gorloks

(BOX SCORE)

SAUGET, IL – On the strength of two big innings, Wartburg defeated Webster, 11-6, in the fifth game of the 2009 Central States Trailways Classic Saturday at GCS Ballpark.

The Knights scored four runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to open up a 10-2 lead.

After Wartburg took the lead with a run in the second, the Gorloks immediately answer with a run in their half.
Junior Dakota Huey and senior Andrew Fuiten started the inning with back-to-back singles. Junior Ricky Pisani moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and then sophomore Paul Kienker brought the run home with a sacrifice fly.

A solo homerun by Craig Schaefer got the Gorloks closer, but WC immediately got that run back off a solo shot to start the inning. They added three more in the fifth to take the aforementioned advantage at the end of five.

Pisani doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to get Webster to 10-3. A three-run eighth pulled WU to within 10-6. Huey brought home the first run with a single, another run was balked home and the scoring concluded with a RBI single by senior Andrew Fuiten.

Huey finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Fuiten added two hits.
