ST. ANN - Seniors
Kelsey Washam and
Dana Vahey powered Webster to two victories in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Round Robin Friday at ABC Park Friday. The two pre-season All-American's drove in eight of Webster's 11 runs.
Washam drove in half of Webster's run in its 8-2 victory over Maryville in their first game, then Vahey provided all of the Gorloks' offense in their 3-1 win over Blackburn. While WU's offensive duo was dominating the action, the Gorloks in the circle were equally spectacular. Senior
Gina Trapani limited Blackburn to one unearned run with four strikeouts in seven innings, while junior
Megan Sperry yielded just two runs in the victory over Maryville.
Webster (8-10) took the lead in the opener on Washam's two-run home run in the fourth inning. WU kept the pressure on with back-to-back singles by Vahey and senior
Mandy Van Velkinburgh. Vahey's steal of the third set up the third run of the inning as Webster claimed the 3-1 lead.
The Saints pulled a run scorer in their half of the fourth, but Vahey's two-run double in the fifth gave the Gorloks more breathing room. Washam capped the scoring in the sixth with a two-run single, pushing the WU bulge to 8-2. Junior
Cassie Mosier added an RBI in the sixth.
Vahey's two-run bomb, which followed a lead-off triple from Washam, was pretty much all the offense needed in the victory over the Beavers. The senior catcher added an RBI single in the fifth to cap the scoring.
The last two games of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Round Robin at ABC Park has been canceled due to inclement weather. The Gorloks are slated to host Millikin Monday in a make-up the game originally scheduled for last Wednesday.
