Bats silenced as WU swept

BABSON PARK - Webster managed eight hits over 14 innings as the Gorloks were swept by Aurora in a doubleheader Sunday at Webber International Field. WU lost the opener 10-0, then fell in the nightcap, 7-1.

Aurora broke the game open with six runs in the sixth inning, pushing the lead to double figures at 10-0. The Spartans opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and two more in the second. Meanwhile, the Webster offense had runners in scoring position in both innings, but couldn't capitalize. The Gorloks were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in the first four innings.

After AU added a single run in the fifth, the aforementioned sixth inning took the wind out of the WU sails.

Senior Kyle Starnes, junior Ricky Pisani and freshman Joe Biagini each had a hit for the Gorloks.

Junior Bryce Law (0-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings. He surrendered 11 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

It was another big inning that slammed the door on the Gorloks in game two as the Spartans a three-run homerun capped a four-run sixth inning.

Aurora took a 3-0 lead with individual runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

Biagini got the Gorloks on the board with his third hit of the game, an RBI double to left center field that chased home senior Dakota Huey. The outfielder opened the inning with a single. However, that was the extent of the Webster run production. Huey and Biagini combined for all five Webster hits.

Junior Will Savage (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits over six innings. He issued one walk with two strikeouts.
