Fuiten Sets Record as Arms Silence MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, IL - With the mixture of powerful offense and stingy pitching, the Webster baseball team swept a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) doubleheader from MacMurray Saturday, 14-3 and 3-0.

Following a three-run, three-hit first inning in the opener, the Highlanders were handcuffed for the remaining 13 innings as they mustered just an infield hit over that span. Junior Peter Quintus (4-0) surrendered the first inning offense, but settled in to keep MacMurray without a hit for the rest of the game. He went six innings, allowing three runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Junior Bryce Law (2-2) was simply masterful in his first start since March 14. The right-hander allowed an infield hit over six innings with seven strikeouts. Junior Will Savage picked up the save, hurling a perfect seventh.

Webster's offense came out blazing, scoring 11 runs over the first two innings of the first game, including a seven-run first. All seven runs came with two outs. In that scoring outburst was senior Andrew Fuiten's record-setting home run. The senior, with his home run in the night cap, now has 20 career long balls.

In addition to Fuiten, junior Aaron Senzell continued his torrid streak at the plate. He had two doubles over the first two innings. The second baseman added another double to bring his streak to five doubles in six hits over six plate appearances. He finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Schaefer added a home run in the fifth inning, while Senzell had a two-run single in the seventh to cap the scoring. Junior Zach Little was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

The offense wasn't as abundant in the second game of the twinbill, but the three runs supplied were more than enough for Law.

Webster took the lead on a double steal in the third inning with Senzell swiping home for the game's first run. Fuiten's second blast of the game in the fourth added an insurance run, while Senzell recorded another RBI with a single in the fifth.

Sophomore Nathan Shelton, Fuiten and Senzell all had two hits for Webster.

The Gorloks (17-10 overall, 14-0) will travel to Town & Country to face Maryville in a key SLIAC doubleheader.
