Webster senior Kelsey Washam was a single shy of the cycle in the opener of the Gorloks' non-conference doubleheader with Millikin and WU dropped both ends, falling 6-5 in eight innings and 4-2 in the nightcap.

With Webster down to its last out in the seventh inning, Washam drew a two-out walk in her fourth at-bat to thwart her attempt at the cycle.

The Big Blue scored three runs on two home runs in the sixth inning to pull even, and then scored the eventual winning run with an infield single in the eighth inning. Webster had its chance to tie the game in their half of the extra inning. A sacrifice bunt moved senior Dana Vahey to third with one out, but a strikeout and ground out brought the game to an end.

Webster built its early advantage with a four-run first inning, converting a two-run deficit into a two-run lead. Back-to-back bunt singles by Megan Sperry and Cassie Mosier set the stage for a bases clearing triple by Washam. The senior shortstop scored on a fielder's choice by Vahey, who swiped second and third to be in position for the fourth WU run. She crossed the plate on a single by Samantha Dittmann.

Washam added a run in the third inning with her sixth home run of the season.

Sperry (5-4) absorbed the loss in relief, allowing an unearned run in 2 2/3 innings. She yielded three hits with one strikeout. She added two hits for the Gorloks.

Millikin struck early in the nightcap with two unearned runs in the second inning. Another unearned run in the sixth inning proved to be a much needed insurance run. Vahey pulled Webster to within a run with a two-run home run, her team-leading seventh, in the sixth inning.

Sperry (5-5) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on six hits in five innings of work with two strikeouts.
