Biagini's Slam Gives Gorloks SLIAC Crown

SAUGET, IL - Freshman Joe Biagini's two-out grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning provided Webster with its margin of victory as the Gorloks clinched the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 13-9 victory over MacMurray.

The Gorloks scored seven runs in their final at-bat to secure the four-run win and their fourth regular season championship. It's the third consecutive such title for Webster.

Senior Kyle Starnes sparked the inning by doubling off the center field wall. Then, back-to-back one-out singles by Nathan Shelton and Zach Little brought home a run. The latter of the singles chased the Highlander starter. The reliever didn't help walking the first two batters he faced to bring home another Webster run. A sacrifice fly and walk proceeded Biagini's big blast.

It was the second time Webster overcame a deficit. The first time came after MacMurray put five runs on the board in the second inning. The Gorloks chipped away with three runs in their half of the second. WU added a run in the third and took the lead with two in the fourth.

Prosperity was short-lived as a solo home run in the sixth pulled MacMurray even, and then the Highlanders reclaimed the lead on a wild pitch in the eighth.

Junior Bryan Stanley (6-1) claimed another victory in relief. He surrendered two runs in two innings.
