Webster Softball Topples Wash U 7-2 in NCAA Tournament

(Indianola, IA) - In the battle of Big Bend which matched up the Gorloks of Webster University and the Bears of Washington University only one team could come out victories and the other would go home.  To the joy of Webster and their fans, the Gorloks defeated the Bears 7-2 to advance to the championship round of the NCAA Regional.

It was the second victory in three attempts over Washington University this season, and the Gorloks now lead the overall series, 10-9.

Webster was led by senior Dana Vahey's  two home runs and five RBI.  Vahey, on her career, is 5 for 8 against Wash U. pitcher Claire Voris with three long balls. The six earned runs were the most allowed by Voris in her Bear career.

Also staring for WU was junior Megan Sperry, who pitched a complete game while giving up only two runs on four hits.

Webster will now take on Gustavus Adolphus who defeated the Gorloks 14-6 yesterday.  Game time is approximately 2:30 p.m.  Webster needs to defeat the Golden Gusties twice in order to advance to the NCAA World Series.
