Webster Drops Two in Regular Season Finale

CLAYTON - The Webster University baseball team ended the regular season on a down note as they fell in both ends of their non-conference doubleheader to Washington University Saturday. The Gorloks fell 5-1 in the opener before being shut out, 3-0, in the night cap.

Freshman Ryan Howard kept the Gorloks from being no-hit in the opener as he hit his first home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning. It's probably par for the course that Webster would score a run on the long ball. In the last NCAA Division III rankings, the Gorloks are fifth nationally in home runs.

Junior Will Savage (6-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in three innings of work.

The Bears took advantage of a couple miscues to tally two of their three runs. The broke the scoreless tie with an unearned run in the fourth inning, then scored two runs in the fifth. The second of those two runs were unearned.

Five different Gorloks recorded single hits in the game.

Senior Eric Broughton took the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on five hits.

Webster will be the top seed in the upcoming St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, starting Thursday at Gilk Park in Highland, IL.
