HIGHLAND, IL - In a game that technically spanned two days, the Webster baseball team stayed alive in the 2009 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 8-2 victory over Greenville Friday at Glik Park.
Webster advances to play the loser of the Maryville/Fontbonne game 4 p.m. Saturday.
Junior
John DuHadway (4-1) earned the win, hurling five innings of four-hit baseball. He surrendered no runs with three strikeouts. DuHadway relieved senior
Eric Broughton, who went four inings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits before weather brought the game to a halt.
Once the game resumed Friday, Webster had found its potent offense. Senior
Alex Raetzloff's single up the middle with two outs knotted the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman
Joe Biagini gave the Gorloks its first lead of the tournament with a solo home run to right in the sixth inning. The blast seemed to awaken the Gorloks as they added five more runs over the next two innings.
Seniors
Andrew Fuiten,
Kyle Starnes and Raetzloff, along with junior
Zach Little all had two hits on the game.
