The men’s soccer team kept pace in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as Webster University won, 3-0, at Westminster College on October 12, in Fulton, MO. Mike Politte’s (SR, St. Francis Borgia HS, MO) two first half goals staked Webster to a 2-0 halftime lead and Alex Cupp’s (JR, Lutheran South HS, STL) fourth solo shutout secured the win.
Politte put Webster on the board four minutes into the game with his first goal, and doubled the lead with a blast just under the cross bar at the 13:39 mark. The goals were his second and third on the season. Clint Carder (SO, DeSoto HS, MO) added a second insurance goal with his 12th goal on the year. Carder leads the SLIAC in goals scored.
Cupp came up big with two sprawling saves just before halftime and another, five minutes into the second half. In addition to the shutouts, Cupp has picked up the decision in all of Webster’s eight wins on the season.
Webster is 4-1 in the SLIAC and 8-3-2 overall. The Gorloks travel to Principia College (IL) on October 16 to face the Panthers.
