The Webster University men’s soccer team settled for a double-overtime, 0-0, tie at Principia College (IL) on October 16. With neither team gaining a point on each other, the Gorloks remained in second place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Both teams had limited scoring opportunities, with the Panthers having a goal waived off in the second half, after a scramble in front of the Webster net. After a deflection off a Principia player’s head from a corner kick, the ball was tapped in by another Panther, who was ruled ahead of the play for an offside.
The shutout was the fourth consecutive by the Gorlok defense and GK Alex Cupp (JR, Lutheran South HS, STL). Cupp recorded his fifth solo shutout on the season as well. Webster improved is 4-1-1 in the SLIAC and 8-3-3 overall. The team has gone 8-1-2 in its last 11 games.
The Gorloks travel to Louisville, KY, to take on Spalding University on October 20 and return home to host Greenville College (IL) on October 23 in a pair of ‘non-conference’ matches.
