Men's Soccer Bows Out in First Round Loss

The Webster University men's soccer team was one and done after losing 3-0 at Greenville College (IL) in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament.  The Gorloks offense was stifled by the Panther defense and a goal with five minutes left in the first half was all Greenville needed.

Gale force winds at times, and dropping temperatures, made for difficult playing conditions. With the wind at its back, Webster was unable to take advantage in the first half. managing four shots on goal.

Eight seniors pulled off their Webster jerseys for the final time.  Bryan Enger (Mehlville HS), Eric Fuchs (Vianney HS), Tom Holmes (Webster Groves HS), Bryce Johnson (Basha HS, AZ), Kyle Leifield (Marquette HS), Mike Mantia (Webster Groves HS), Mike Politte (St. Francis Borgia HS), and Zack Papes (McCluer North HS) ended their careers as Gorloks.

Webster, which finished in a tie for third in the SLIAC at 5-2-1, wound up 10-6-3 overall on the season.   With the loss of eight seniors, coach Marty Todt and staff figure to take to the recruiting trail to restock for 2011.
