Gorloks Have Chilly Weekend

The Webster University men's baseball team dropped back to back games on March 19-20 to Franklin College (IN), 2-1, and to Concordia University (IL), 18-1, at GCS Ballpark.  The forecast of inclement weather forced the Gorloks to rearrange a scheduled round-robin format, playing single games on the 19th and 20th, and scheduling a double-header vs. North Park University (IL) on March 22.

Webster faced Franklin (5-3) on March 19, and pitching dominated play on the cool evening.  Bryce Law (SR, Rochelle HS, IL) started for the Gorloks and allowed two earned runs and two hits, while striking out five, in four innings.  Pat Amrhein (SO, St. John Vianney HS, STL) pitched a strong four innings of relief, allowing one hit while striking out six.  The only run the Gorloks could push across was on a solo home run by Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL), his third of the season.

On March 20, Webster ran into a talented Concordia (10-1) squad and were victims of its offensive prowess, falling behind 16-0 and never getting untracked.  Valdez went two for three in the game, raising his average to .395 on the season.

After the double-header with North Park, Webster heads to Eureka College for a three-game swing on March 27-28 for its first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action for 2010.
