Gorloks Sweep Fontbonne, Go 4-0 in SLIAC

SLIAC Streak At 34

The Webster University men's baseball team swept a double-header at Fontbonne University, 11-5 and 4-2, on March 31.  The team received complete game wins by David Mueller (SO, Westminster Christian Academy) and #Will Savage (SR, Benet Academy, IL) as it extended its winning streak in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to 34 games.  The victory also marked the 100th win for head coach Bill Kurich, all at the helm of the Webster program.

Mueller had a rough third-inning in the opener, allowing four runs on four hits as Webster fell behind 5-3.  Mueller settled in, scattering three hits the rest of the way, and the Gorlok offense kicked in to pull out the victory.  A solo home run by Craig Schaefer (JR, Carterville HS, IL) in the fourth pulled Webster within one and a two-run blast by Dakota Huey (SR, Highland HS, IL) in the fifth put the Gorloks on top for good.  Mueller picked up his second win on the season.

In the nightcap, Savage had a no-hitter entering the seventh but lost his bid, and the shutout, as Fontbonne put together two runs on two hits and a hit batsman, as Webster won 4-2.  Savage had six strikeouts as he raised his season record to 3-0.  A three-run sixth extended a precarious one-run lead to four, and Savage's pitching held up for the win.

Kurich's 100th win as a head coach saw Webster go to 4-0 in the SLIAC and 10-5 overall.  Webster plays a make-up game with Eurkeka College (IL) at Washington University on April 2.  On April 3, the Gorloks take on Washington University in a double-header at GCS Ballpark.
