Softball Starts 2010 With Win

Sperry Stars in 5-4 Victory of College of St Benedict

The Webster University women's softball team started off the 2010 season with a 5-4 win over the College of St. Benedict (MN) in Kissimmee, FL, on March 6.  Megan Sperry (SR, Clarkston HS, MI) pitched, and helped hit, Webster to the victory.  The Gorloks dropped a nightcap game, 4-0, to Indiana Wesleyan University.

Sperry had the complete game win against CSB, allowing 2 earned runs. She was also two for four at the plate.  All nine of Webster's starters had at least one of the team's 16 hits.  Five different Gorloks had multi-hit games, led by freshman Jessica Arcangel (St. Lucy HS, CA), who went three for four, with an RBI.

In the second game, #Lexie Moore# (SR, Champaign Central HS, IL) went six and one-third innings, allowing three earned runs.  Sperry and #Cassie Mosier# (SR, LeRoy HS, IL), who had two hits in the opener, were one for three.  #Ashley Meagher# (FR, Dupo HS, IL) made her Webster pitching debut, striking out both batters she faced. 

The Gorloks are playing a 10-game swing at the Rebel Games in Florida.  Webster faces Coe College (IA), the eighth-ranked team in NCAA III nationally, tomorrow, March 7, and Marietta College (GA).
