Baseball Improves to 10-1 in SLIAC with Sweep at Blackburn

The Webster University men's baseball team rode a strong start by Bryce Law (SR, Rochelle HS, IL) in an 8-2 game one win, and a rejuvenated offense for a 14-8 game two victory, in a double-header at Blackburn College (IL) on April 13.  The wins improved the Gorloks record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to 10-1, good enough for first place.

Law pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out five, as Webster won 8-2.  Cody Stevenson (FR, Centralia HS), who was two for four with two runs, two RBIs, two stolen bases, a double, and a walk, led the Gorlok offense.  Zach Little (SR, Ritenour HS, STL) was two for four with two runs and two doubles, and Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL) was two for three with a run scored, an RBI, a double, and a walk.

In the nightcap the Webster offense, which had been somewhat silent in its series against Spalding University (KY), broke out by scoring 14 runs on 14 hits, in the 14-8 victory.  Craig Schaefer (JR, Carterville HS, IL) and Dakota Huey (SR, Highland HS, IL) were three for four, with a home run (the fourth for both), and four RBIs.  Schaefer edged Huey with two doubles to Huey's one.  Aaron Senzell (SR, Harrison HS, IN) was two for four with three RBIs.

Webster travels to MacMurray College (IL) for a single nine-inning game on April 17, before returning home to GCS Ballpark on April 18 for a double-header vs. MacMurray.
