Power, Pitching Propel Gorloks

DH Sweep Puts Them at 8-2 in SLIAC

The Webster University women's softball team swept MacMurray College (IL), 6-2, 8-0, at Blackburn Park on April 17.  A combination of power and pitching, as the Gorloks hit two home runs and had two complete game wins, led them to victory.

Jessica Arcangel's (FR, St. Lucy's Priory, CA) three-run home run in the first inning, gave the Gorloks a quick lead in the game one, 6-2 win.  That wound up being all the runs Webster would need as Megan Sperry (SR, Clarkston HS, MI) allowed two runs in seven innings, striking out 12 while walking none.  Sperry is 7-2 on the season.  Ashley Meagher (FR, Dupo HS, IL) was two for three at the plate, with a double and a run scored.

Megan Lokey (SO, Hazelwood West HS, STL) got the start in game two, and pitched a five-inning shutout, spreading out four hits and giving up no walks.  Webster's pitchers gave up no walks in 12 innings on the day.  Lokey raised her season record to 3-3 with the win.  Sam Dittmann (SR, St. Pius X, STL) hit her second home run of the season, a three-run blast, to cap a seven-run second inning.  Dittmann was two for four for the game, with four RBIs, in the 8-0 win.

Webster is 8-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, and 15-11 overall.  The Gorloks travel to Fontbonne University on April 21 for two games before taking on the Washington University Bears at Blackburn Park on April 25 for two as well.
