The Webster University women's softball team beat Fontbonne University by identical 2-1 scores in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double-header at ABC Park on April 21. Webster finished the evening 10-2 in the SLIAC, while Fontbonne fell to 9-3. A walk-off double by
Sam Dittman (SR, St. Pius X HS, STL) in game two, and complete game wins by
Megan Sperry (SR, Clarkston HS, MI) and
Ashley Meagher (FR, Dupo HS, IL) paced the Gorloks.
Sperry raised her season record to 8-3 with the seven-inning win, allowing one run.
Meghan Lokey (SO, Hazelwood West HS, STL) provided all the run support Sperry needed with a two-run home run in the third inning.
In the nightcap, Meagher shut out the Griffins for six innings, but Fontbonne manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Webster started the bottom of the eighth with a runner at second base via the "international rule," but lost that runner at third trying to advance on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Dittmann, the SLIAC Hitter of the Week, came through with a drive into the right center field gap that scored
Cassie Mosier (SR, LeRoy HS, IL) from first with the game winner.
Meagher improved to 6-1 on the season with the win. Webster takes a break from SLIAC action with a twinbill at Blackburn Park vs. Washington University on April 25.
