Gorloks Add Two More Wins, Move Closer to SLIAC Title

The Webster University men's baseball team edged a little closer to its fourth straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a double-header win over Westminster College, 7-5 and 5-2, at GCS Ballpark on April 29.  The wins extended the Gorloks streak in the SLIAC to 11, and to 12 games overall.

John DuHadway (SR, Christian Brothers HS, STL) started on the mound for Webster, pitching six shutout innings of one-hit ball.  DuHadway scattered five walks and struck out six as he picked up his fourth victory of the season.  Joe Biagini (SO, Glenbard South HS, IL) and Craig Schaefer (JR, Cartersville HS, IL) hit back to back home runs in a four-run first inning to put the Gorloks out in front 4-0.  Webster had a 7-0 entering the 7th and a Blue Jay rally fell short as the Gorloks won 7-5.

Mike Gebhardt (SO, St. Dominic HS, STL) gave Webster another strong start in game two, pitching a complete game one-hitter. Gebhardt did a good job of keeping the ball down, inducing 13 ground ball outs.  After a rocky first inning that gave the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead, courtesy of two walks and an error, Gebhardt allowed only two base runners over the final six innings.  Cody Stevenson (FR, Centralia HS, IL) provided most of the Gorlok offense, going three for three, with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Webster is 19-1 in the SLIAC and 28-7 overall.  The Gorloks are back at GCS Ballpark for another 11:00 a.m. start on April 30, for a single nine-inning contest with Greenville College (IL).  Webster travels to Greenville on May 1 for a double-header.
