Gorlok Power Surge Continues in Sweep of Washington U., 18-2, 17-1

Valdez' Three Home Runs Pace Offense

The Webster University men's baseball team muscled up in an 18-2, 17-1, sweep of Washington University at GCS Ballpark on April 3. Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL) went five for five, with two home runs and six RBIs in the opener, then capped the day with a home run and five RBIs in the nightcap. Will Savage (SR, Benet Academy, IL) and David Mueller (SO, Westminster Christian Academy, STL) both had complete game victories for the Gorloks.

Webster has won nine straight games, and has scored double digit run counts in six of its last seven games. Valdez has eight home runs total for the season. In addition to Valdez, several other Gorloks had big days. Joe Biagini (SO, Glenbard South HS, IL), who had two home runs in a 26-3 win over Eureka College (IL) the previous day, went two for two with five RBIs in game two. Freshman Cody Stevenson (Centralia HS, IL), who had three home runs in the Eureka win, went two for four, with four runs scored.

Savage scattered five hits and allowed two runs, walking one and striking out four, while raising his record to 4-0 on the season. Mueller struck out eight, while allowing seven hits, no walks, and one earned run, to raised his record to 3-0. Webster is 13-5 on the season.

The victory over Eureka, a make-up of a game postponed on March 28, put Webster at 5-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and ran its SLIAC winning streak to 35. The Gorloks are back in action on April 6 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
