The Webster University men's baseball team mounted a comeback from a 10-4 deficit that just fell short, losing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on April 6. A grand slam by
Anthony Genna (JR, Lyons Township HS, IL) fueled a six-run sixth inning to tie the game, but the Gorloks fell short, losing 11-10.
Webster took a quick lead in the first as
Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL), the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for March 29-April 5, kept up his onslaught at the plate with a three-run homer to put the Gorloks up 3-0. It was Valdez' ninth home run of the season. The lead was short-lived and Webster found itself down 10-4 before Genna's blast tied the game at 10-10 in the sixth. UMSL scored a run in the bottom half on the inning and made it hold up for the victory.
The Gorloks see their nine-game win streak go by the boards. Genna would up two for the five on the day with four RBIs and Valdez was two for five as well, with three RBIs.
Pat Amrhein (SO, St. John Vianney HS, STL) pitched a workman-like five innings in relief, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, but took the loss.
John DuHadway (SR, Christian Brothers HS, STL) started for the Gorloks.
Webster hosts SLIAC rival Fontbonne University on April 7 at GCS Ballpark for a single, nine-inning contest.
