Gorlok Comeback Extends SLIAC Winning Streak to 36

Webster 7 Fontbonne 6

The Webster University men’s baseball team extended its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winning streak to 36, defeating Fontbonne University, 7-6, in a come from behind victory at GCS Ballpark on April 7. The Gorloks are in first place, at 6-0, in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Bryan Stanley (SR, Larkin HS, IL) pitched two and one-thirds innings of scoreless relief, striking out five and picking up his fourth win of the season. A Zach Little (SR, Ritenour HS, STL) sacrifice fly in the eighth scored Nathan Shelton (JR, Northwest HS, STL), with the winning run.  Shelton had singled to start the inning.

Webster fell behind as four Gorlok errors and back-to-back Griffin home runs led to a 6-2 deficit. A lead-off home run by Little in the bottom of the fifth, his second of the season, cut the Fontbonne lead to three. The Gorloks picked up more runs in the sixth as John Combs (SR, Macomb HS, IL) singled in two to cut the lead to 6-5.  Webster manufactured another run in the seventh to knot the score at 6-6.

Joe Biagini (SO, Glenbard South HS, IL) had a solo home run in the second inning, his fourth, and was two for four with two RBIs. Bryce Law (SR, Rochelle HS, IL) started and pitched six and two-third innings, giving up seven hits and six runs, but only four earned.

The Gorloks are 14-6 overall on the season.  Webster hosts Spalding University (KY) for a double-header on April 10 at GCS Ballpark, and again for a single, nine-inning game on April 11.  The gametime for the April 10 double-header has been moved to 12 noon from its original 1 pm start time.
