The Webster University men's baseball team dropped its regular season finale to Westminster College, 13-7, at Fulton, MO, on May 9. The Gorloks, who had an eight day layoff, utilized several starters in preparation for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. A rough day for the defense led to five unearned runs early, and Webster played catch-up the rest of the afternoon.
David Mueller (SO, Westminster Christian Academy, STL) suffered his first loss of the season as he had to pitch around three errors and a passed ball in his one inning of work. The Blue Jays pecked him for four runs, all unearned.
Zach Little (SR, Ritenour HS, STL), the last of five Gorlok pitchers, made his pitching debut a memorable one. Little, a shortstop by trade, struck out all three batters he faced looking in the sixth.
John Combs (SR, Macomb HS, IL) led the Gorlok offense, going two for four with two runs scored, four RBIS, and his 5th and 6th home runs of the season.
Nathan Shelton (JR, Northwest HS, STL) was two for three with an RBI and his second home run of the year.
Webster will take on the #4 seed in the SLIAC tournament on May 13 at Glik Park in Highland, IL. Three teams, Fontbonne University, Eureka College (IL), or Westminster, could still finish in that fourth spot.
