Gorloks Downed in Opener at Washington U

The Webster University men's soccer team went down to defeat in the 2010 season opener at Washington University, 7-0, on September 1.  The Gorloks, who lost seven starters to graduation and have 11 new players on the squad, had trouble finding their stride on the road vs. the Bears.

Webster had 22 players see action in the game.  A bright spot for the Gorloks was the 2nd half play of goalkeeper Adis Beganovic (SR, St. John the Baptist, Bosnia), who is playing soccer for the first time after playing tennis his first three years at Webster.  Down 5-0 at the half, Beganovic limited the Bears to two second half goals.  The Gorloks were missing two key players to injuries, transfer Clint Carder (SO, DeSoto HS, STL) and returning starter Matt Mantia (SR, Webster Groves HS, STL).

The Gorloks regroup and prepare for a Labor Day weekend trip to Memphis, TN on September 4-5, where they will take on Millsaps College (MS) and Rhodes College (TN) in the Greg Volgas Classic.  Webster's home opener will be on September 11 at 1 pm vs. Concordia University (IL) at A-B Soccer Park.
