The Webster University men’s baseball team wound up the weekend with a 3-2 loss to Wartburg College (IA) on March 20 at GCS Ballpark. Despite a workmanlike effort by starting pitcher Zach Schneider (FR, Warren Township HS, IL), the Gorlok offense could only scrape together two runs.
In his third start, Schneider spread seven hits over seven innings, striking out seven, walking one, and allowing two runs. The game was a pitching duel, with Wartburg scoring single runs in the third, seventh and eighth innings. Webster tied the game, 1-1, in the fourth, and scored its only other run in the seventh to pull within one run.
Schneider, who has struck out 22 batters in 20.2 innings pitched, fell to 1-2 on the season. The Gorlok offense had a tough weekend, picking up 11 hits in three games.
The Gorloks travel to Bloomington, IL, on March 26 where they will face Concordia again, and Illinois Wesleyan University. Webster returns home on March 30 when they take on Greenville College (IL) in a double-header at GCS to open the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule.
