Softball Splits With Lady Blues

Webster Win First 9-2, Lose Shortened Finale, 6-2

After winning the opener 9-2, the Webster University women's softball team lost a shortened nightcap, 6-2, to Illinois College, on March 23 in Jacksonville, IL.  Ashley Meagher (SO, Dupo HS, IL), just named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, had a complete game victory in the opener.

Meagher evened her season record at 3-3 as she allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out a season high eight batters, in her seven innings of work.  Hanna Brindisi (JR, John A. Logan CC, IL) and Tabitha Bahre (JR, Lutheran South HS) were the hitting stars for the Gorloks as they scored nine straight runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first.

Brindisi hit her third home run of the season while going two for four, with three RBIs.  Brindisi's two-run shot added to her team-leading 17 RBIs on the year.  Bahre was three for four, with an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases.

In game two, a six-run sixth by the Lady Blues put the Gorloks in a 6-0 hole.  Kristie Konersmann (FR, Northwest HS) had a two-run double in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 6-2.  The umpires and coaches determined the game would end after five innings because of cold and winds, and it was called in the bottom of the fifth with Illinois College leading.

Webster is 10-8 and will face its first SLIAC competition of the season in the SLIAC Round Robin on March 25-26 at ABC Park in St. Ann.  The Gorloks play Fontbonne University and Spalding University (KY) on the 25th, and Eureka College (IL) and Greenville College (IL) on the 26th.  The games do not count toward conference standings.
