Webster Defeats Aurora, 6-4

Team Improves to 3-1 in Central FLorida Invitational

Improving its record to 3-1 in the Central Florida Invitational, the Webster University men's baseball team downed Aurora University, 6-4, on March 7, in Orlando, FL.  David Mueller (JR, Westminster Christian Academy) picked up his first win of the season.

Aurora was the Northern Athletics Conference tournament champions in 2010 and advanced to the NCAA III Championships.  The Spartans, the pre-season favorite in the NAC, were the first victim of Mueller in 2011.  Mueller, 8-1 with a 2.08 era in 2010, is expected to anchor the Gorlok starting staff this season.

Steve Dooley (SO, Florissant Valley CC) came out of the bullpen and nailed down his first save for the Gorloks.  Dooley entered the game in the bottom of the ninth, with one out and runners at first and third.    After a fly ,and a walk that loaded the bases, Dooley caught the final batter looking for a game ending strikeout.

Cody Stevenson (SO, Centralia HS, IL) was two for five, with two runs scored, and picked up his eighth stolen base in four games.  Anthony Genna (SR, Lyons Township HS, IL) was one for four, with a run scored, and reached base four times.

Webster returns to action on March 10 vs. Bethany Lutheran College (MN) as the Invitational continues.  Webster faces Mt. St. Mary's College (NY) and Suffolk University (MA) on March 11.
