The women's softball team had a little of it all, good starting pitching, solid relief, power, as Webster University swept Principia College, 6-3 and 12-7, on April 11 in Elsah, IL. Ashley Meagher (SO, Dupo HS, IL) pitched five innings of one-run ball to pick up her seventh win and Trisha Thompson (FR, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) came on to save both ends of the double-header.
Meagher started game one and allowed five hits, one walk, three runs-one earned, and struck out six. Thompson came on to pitch the sixth and seventh, allowing one baserunner. Freshman Samantha Powers (J. F. Kennedy HS) relieved in game two, when there was only one out and four runs had already crossed the plate.
Powers pitched five and a third innings, scattering eight hits and allowing three runs. She walked none and struck out four, as she was rewarded with a win in a solid debut. Thompson came on again, pitching the final inning and a third, and picked up her second save of the afternoon, allowing no baserunners and striking out three.
Chelsea Schaffer (JR, Lindbergh HS) hit her fourth home run of the season, and Kaytlin Burczak (SO, Bishop McNamara HS, IL) hit her second, in the opener, Hanna Brindisi (JR, John A. Logan CC, IL) went three for five with three RBIs in the nightcap, and Kristie Konersmann (FR, Northwest HS) went two for four with three RBIs.
Webster improved to 6-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 16-12 overall. The Gorloks travel to Jacksonville, IL, to take on MacMurray College on April 15. The team returns home on April 16 to face Eureka College (IL) in a double-header at Blackburn Park.
